DR   J.  VAZ. (Fr Joseph (Ousepachen, son of John-Thresiamma Mathai),

Pakalomattom, Srayithazha Vazhuthanapally, VAZ. family) belongs to the Missionary Society of St Thomas the Apostle (MST). He is the sole Indian Christian Archaeologist who holds double Doctorates in Christian and Oriental  Archaeology. He has Master’s degree in Sacred Scripture, Archaeology, Oriental languages and Indian Archaeology. He did his Biblical studies in Jerusalem and  archaeological studies in Rome, Paris and London.


He is currently professor of Oriental Archaeology and Languages in  many archaeological institutes.


He is also the co-founder and first Director of CICAR (Centre for Indian Christian Archaeological Research), Changanasserry, Keralam, the Founder and the International Director of CASI (Christian Archaeological Survey of India, Office in Firenze, Italy: Site at Lower Kodungallur, Thumbur, Kochi, Kerala), the Founder and first Director of ICALI (Indian culture, archaeology and language institute, Ujjain) and the Founder and first Director of ABU (Apostolate of the Bible in the eparchy of Ujjain), and also serves as the President for the missionarie della santa croce (Siena).


He established YYC (Yisrael Yatra Centre) at Lower Kodungallur for the pilgrimage to the Holy Land. He is an official guide to the Holy Land and Italy, and also a “socio ordinario” of IsIAO – Istituto Italiano per l’Africa e l’Oriente- Rome. PCAS (Pontificio Commissione di Archeologia Sacra) awarded a medel of recognition of his archaeological works done in India on 3rd July 2010.


He has good number of publications as books and articles too.
