Following reports of  India's booming surrogacy industry, Nepal's devastating earth quake brought to light its own surrogacy industry. Soon after the April 25th- earth-quake that ripped Nepal (in which more than 8000 people died), an Israeli flight Boeing 747 carried away 26 babies born to surrogate mothers who sold their wombs to Israeli homosexuals.

None of the mothers was allowed to travel with these babies. Another hundreds of pregnant mothers with babies for Israeli clients were left behind in the disaster zone. After the second quake (after-effect of the first quake), on May 12th, four more babies were airlifted to Israel without their mothers.

In Israel surrogacy for homosexuals and single parents is illegal, so they have turned to surrogacy agencies abroad. India and Thailand have well-developed surrogate-mother networks. But after scandals both countries recently imposed some restrictions on overseas clients, which are still not properly 'enforced'. According to Nepali sources, the Indian agencies have moved their clinics to Nepal. Surrogacy is against the law in Nepal, but this only applies to Nepalese citizens. So Indian women have been going to Kathmandu clinics to bear babies for Israeli clients for money.

According to Israeli news paper th Haaretz: " once the babies have arrived, they face further difficulties. Because their biological mothers are not Jewish (the ova were purchased from the US, South Africa and other countries) they need to undergo conversion. But most rabbinical courts are very reluctant to allow the children of single-sex couples or single parents to convert".
