A man who provided sperm to a lesbian couple in response to an online advertisement has to pay child support, a District Court Judge in Kansas ruled.

William Marotta, a resident of Topeka , the capital city of  the State of Kansas had argued that he had waived his paternal rights and didn't intend to be a father when he sold his sperm.

But Shawnee County District Judge Mary Mattivi rejected that claim. She said the artificial insemination process didn't involve a licensed physician and Morotta didn't legally qualify as a sperm donor.

The Kansas Department for Children and Families sued in 2012 to have Marotta declared the father of the child born to Jennifer Schreiner in 2009. The Department did this to recover the $6000 the State provided Jennifer as public assistance to support her child.

As per the verdict, the sperm donor William Marotta has to pay  $ 6000 to the State as well as future child support .
