U.S Federal Drug Administration (FDA) legally cleared the marketing of a mobile medical app for Glucose Monitoring in real time. This will help patients with diabetes share data from a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) with other individuals.
The app namedDexcom SHARETM needs to be downloaded by two users---the diabetic patient and the care giver. The patient can add more caregivers if he or she wants her blood glucose to be made known to other family members or friends.
Continuous Glucose Monitoring will help diabetic patients to keep a log of their blood sugar values and examine when the level goes high or low. The app also comes with customizable alerts for low or high glucose.
This innovative technology has been widely welcomed by the caregivers, especially parents, of diabetic children who want to monitor their glucose remotely.
2015 is going to see more apps to be approved by FDA. Over 50,000 health apps are currently available on global internet, with many being neither standardized nor checked for quality. Approval by FDA means certain quality checks and standards are met by the manufacturers for marketing.
