An appeal to all Malayalee organizations in USA-American Malayalee Prof.Nalini Ambady of Stanford University needs matching bone marrow-

Prof.Nalini Ambady is a reputed psychology professor at Stanford University and a leading social scientist whose ground-breaking research  resulted in hundreds of publications and thousands of citations ,known all over the world.

She is the first Indian ever to be a teacher in both Harvard and Stanford Universities and is known among the students as a beloved teacher and mentor.

Of course, the First Malayalee ever to reach at this position which all Malayalees can be proud of.

Prof.Nalini Ambady hails from Ernakulam and lives with her husband Raj and two teenage daughters in west Stanford.

She was diagnosed with Leukemia (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia) in 2004 and has been in remission for last 8 years. Unfortunately, late last year her cancer relapsed shattering the hopes of her family, friends and students.

Hundreds of students across Harvard , Stanford and Tuft Universities are campaigning to find a bone-marrow match to this Malayalee professor who needs a match from "Malayalee ethnicity" (or South Indian), if possible.

Even though US Bone Marrow Registry has tens of millions of bone marrow data base, nothing matched with her HLA antigens.

After 6-month-long searching of all Bone Marrow Registries in India, only a single match was found which belonged to a Malayalee software engineer who first consented to donate but later refused due to health and family reasons.

Pool of South Asians (especially Malayalees) is very low in all Bone Marrow Registries available in the world.

Prof.Nalini has to do the bone marrow transplant in the next 8 weeks and her friends are conducting bone marrow drives in Kochi, Bangalore etc, but have not yet found a matching donor.

If any American Malayalee is willing please visit this page set up in the Stanford University website and fill in your information.

Bone marrow donation is not a dangerous process. If you are between the ages of 18-44 and healthy you can also register with Marrow.org and use the promo code "nalini" to get your kit expedited.
