26 doctors in NY-NJ area pleaded guilty in bribery schemes. Massive crack down by Federal Investigators.

Thirty eight people--including 26 physicians-- have pleaded guilty in connection with a bribery scheme. These doctors admitted taking part in a long-running bribes-for-test referrals scheme involving a Lab in New Jersey. The bribery scheme has been running since 2006. Each doctor was receiving kickbacks ranging more than $5000 per month for referring patients' blood specimens to Parsippany-based Bio-diagnostic Laboratory Services LLC.

A Long-Island doctor Brett Halper of Glen Head N.Y, pleaded guilty to accepting bribes. All doctors will face a maximum of 5 years in prison and $250,000 fine when sentenced in June 2015.

Its organizers have admitted the scheme involved millions of dollars in bribes and resulted in more than $100 million in payments to the company from Medicare and various private insurance companies. The investigation has recovered more than $10.5 million so far through forfeiture. U.S Attorney office and FBI jointlyconducted the operation. Several other people connected with the lab, also, have pleaded guilty, including president and part-owner David Nicoll and his brother Scott, a senior employee.
